How to Plan a Personal Retreat
A step-by-step method for planning a self-directed retreat with a clear intention, realistic boundaries, and a gentle schedule.
Start with one honest intention
“Solve my life” is too heavy for a retreat. Choose a usable intention: rest without input, think through one decision, mark an ending, or listen for what has been crowded out.
Protect the time. Tell anyone who needs to know. Decide how emergencies can reach you. Prepare food, water, a notebook, weather information, and any medication or accessibility needs.
Give the day a light spine
Use arrival, movement, reflection, empty time, and closure. Alternate writing with embodied activities such as walking or preparing a meal. Leave more white space than your productive mind prefers.
End with one next step, not a total reinvention.
