12 Journaling Prompts for Quiet Travel
Simple, non-clinical journaling prompts to use during a quiet trip, organized by arrival, midpoint, and departure.
Keep it short
A journal on a quiet trip works best as a few honest lines, not a full essay. Pick one prompt per sitting rather than answering all of them.
On arrival
- What did I notice in the first ten minutes that I would have missed if I were scrolling instead?
- What am I hoping this time will give me? What am I afraid it won’t?
- What is one thing I am carrying here that I would like to leave lighter?
At the midpoint
- What has surprised me so far—about the place, or about myself?
- When did I feel most present today? What made that possible?
- What have I been avoiding writing down?
Near departure
- What do I understand now that I didn’t when I arrived?
- What is one small practice from this trip I want to keep at home?
- Who or what do I want to tell about this, and why?
A closing prompt
Write one sentence you would want to read a year from now. Date it. That sentence is often more useful than pages of description.
